Well, this is the last week of lessons before Christmas holidays! Thank you so much for your dedication, commitment, and friendship over the past few months. We hope you have a wonderful holiday season full of laughter, good food, and music. Merry Christmas, and we’ll see you in the New Year!
If you were lucky enough to get tickets to see Glee’s performance of Rock of Ages this past weekend, you were standing in your seat singing your heart out to We Built This City! Everyone brought their A-game, and performed songs like Sister Christian, Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Juke Box Hero, and more! Darby Mills of the Darby Mills Project (and former lead singer of the Canadian rock band Headpins) started off the show singing Paradise City. The whole evening was spectacular. Well done to all of our Glee cast and the phenomenal band, and a HUGE thank you to Darby Mills of the Darby Mills Project, Heather Stranks & Jens Goerner from Dance City, all of our sponsors, and our fearless voice instructor and Glee organizer Therese Parent, for all of your dedication and commitment to a wonderful performance! BRAVO!
Rock Of Ages
You were nothing but a Juke Box Hero and you Hitme with Your Best Shot. This made me Harden My Heart.
But I Don’t Stop Believin’ as More Than Words will reveal an Undercover Love
I Want to Know What Love Is and be Wanted but Every Rose Has it’s Thorn.
I’ve Been Waiting for a Boy Like You, Mister Christian, and just Can’t Fight This Feeling Anymore so Here I Go Again
I Love Rock and Roll and I Wanna Rock, Anyway You Want it.
And To Be With You, it would be Just Like Paradise and I would be in Heaven.
Now we’re in Paradise City and having Nothin’ But a Good Time as We Built This City together!
We’re Not Gonna Take it too far, I just want you to Pour Some Sugar On Me in the Shadows of the Night, and I’ll Rock U Like a Hurricane (oops…a little naughty!)
Don’t it Make You Feel Like Dancin’ to the Rock of Ages?

Every once in a while, our students will play near the waiting area where everyone can hear. Monday was one of those days, and we were so grateful we could listen in. Here’s a snippet of these sisters knocking their performance out of the park!
Decorating is in full swing here at the school, and we’re so grateful for all the help we receive from our students. We have several young musicians who are also budding artists, and love to help with a craft or two around the school. It takes a village to keep the music school going!
Finally…the moment we’ve all been waiting for has arrived! Aaron Jamin, our Ukulele instructor, is starting a Kids Group Ukulele program in January! If you know a child between the ages of 7-11, who is maybe looking to learn their first instrument, or looking for a SUPER fun instrument to play, and wants to learn in a fun atmosphere with their peers, this is the class for them!
Classes will be on Wednesdays, starting January 30 until the middle of June, at 4:00pm for 45 minutes. Children will be learning a variety of songs that are accessible to beginners by learning basic strumming and fingerpicking patterns. Games will be included to enhance the learning process, and songs will be incorporated based on children’s ability and interest. This class will give children the opportunity to learn in a fun environment and gain confidence in their musical abilities. Plus…how versatile are ukuleles!?

We have had some amazing artwork here at the school; some of our younger musicians created lovely Christmas ornament with their hand prints. They are so lovely, that we had to hang them from our windows! They have also been busy colouring pictures to hang on our walls. We love how our students make the school feel like a community!
What if we could raise funds for the Music School, just by doing your grocery shopping? Let me explain…
We just became a member of Nature’s Fare Markets’ 3% Club! Every time someone from our school – a teacher, student, or family – shops at Nature’s Fare they donate 3% (before tax) of the total back to us as a tax-free donation! That can add up!
Here’s how it works…
• Shop at Nature’s Fare Markets, save your receipts, put your receipts in our 3% Club box.
• Three times a year (in April, August and December) we total and submit the receipts
• Within one month Nature’s Fare sends us a as a tax-free donation.
In 2017 alone they’ve donated over $44,000 to organizations like ours to show their appreciation for the work we do. By working together we help to keep our community sustainable, healthy, and thriving.
Thank you so much for support of the 3% Club.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
Today the Vernon Community Music School was so grateful to receive a donation from The Vernon Book Volunteers Society to help with maintenance costs of the heritage house. Thank you so much VBVS, your donation helps our school be the best it can be!
The holiday photo frame is a big hit at the school! Come grab a prop, take a picture, and join in the fun!
Saturday was the big night at the Rotary Carole Festival, and students from Bev Martens and Morna Howie’s class performed and brought their A-game playing Ode to Joy, Corelli Christmas Concerto, Cannon in D, and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Here is the Cello Squad, showing off their skills. Check out our Facebook page to see a shared video of the event! Bravo!
